Diagnostic Inspection

Diagnostic Inspection

Warning light on? Find out what is really going on — at a fixed fee.

A diagnostic inspection reads the fault codes stored across your vehicle's electronic systems and uses them, along with your symptoms, to help pinpoint the likely cause of a warning light or problem. It is the sensible first step when a dashboard light appears or your car is not running as it should. Once we have identified what is going on, any repair we recommend is quoted separately for your approval — so you decide what happens next before any further work is carried out.

Frequently asked questions

What is a diagnostic check?

A diagnostic check connects to your vehicle's onboard systems to read the fault codes they have stored. A technician then interprets those codes alongside your symptoms to work out the most likely cause of the problem.

Will it tell you exactly what is wrong?

Often it points straight to the cause, but not always. A code usually identifies the system or circuit at fault rather than naming a single broken part, so the diagnostic narrows things down and, where needed, guides any further checks before we recommend a repair.

Can a warning light clear itself?

Sometimes a light goes out on its own if the condition that triggered it no longer occurs. Even then the fault code is usually still stored in memory, which is why a diagnostic can be useful even after the light has gone out.

Is it safe to drive with a warning light on?

It depends on the light. A red warning light generally means stop as soon as it is safe to do so, while an amber light usually means have it checked soon. If you are unsure, it is best to have a diagnostic inspection before driving further.

When do I pay?

Payment arrangements are displayed during the booking process. Your card is only charged once the work has been completed.
