Exhaust Repairs

Exhaust Repairs

Blowing, rattling or failing emissions — fixed properly at a fixed price.

Your exhaust carries hot gases away from the engine, keeps noise down and cleans up emissions through the catalytic converter and, on most modern diesels, the diesel particulate filter (DPF). Exhausts corrode from the inside and out, and short journeys stop a DPF from cleaning itself. Our mechanics find the fault, replace the worn section or sensor, and make sure the system is sealed and working.

How pricing works

The cost depends on which part of the system has failed and on your vehicle. Catalytic converters and DPFs cost more than a back box, so we always find the fault first. Enter your registration number for a fixed-price quote covering parts and labour.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my DPF keep blocking?

A diesel particulate filter cleans itself by burning off soot, which needs a steady run at higher speed. Lots of short, slow journeys stop this happening, so the filter fills up and the warning light comes on.

Can I have my DPF removed?

No. Removing a DPF from a car that was built with one is illegal, and the car will fail its MOT. If a DPF is blocked, it can be cleaned or replaced.

Will a blowing exhaust fail the MOT?

A serious leak can. The MOT checks the exhaust for leaks and security, and diesel cars are also checked for smoke. MOTs are carried out at approved MOT test centres.

What does a lambda sensor do?

A lambda (oxygen) sensor measures the oxygen in the exhaust so the engine can get the fuel mix right. A faulty sensor can turn on the engine management light and raise fuel use.

When do I pay?

Payment arrangements are shown during booking. Your card is only charged once the work has been completed.
