1What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that websites place on your device when you visit them. They've been around since the early days of the web and they're used by almost every site you'll visit. Some cookies are essential for a site to function — others are used to remember preferences or measure how visitors use a site.
Throughout this policy, when we say "cookies" we mean cookies and similar technologies including local storage, session storage, pixel tags, and web beacons. The technical details differ but the privacy implications are similar.
2Why we use cookies
We use cookies to:
- Keep you signed into your account between page loads
- Remember the contents of your booking basket so you don't lose them when you navigate
- Protect your account and our service from fraud and abuse
- Remember your preferences (like cookie consent itself, or your last-used postcode)
- Understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it
- Measure the effectiveness of our marketing campaigns
We do not use cookies to:
- Sell your data to third parties
- Track you across unrelated websites for behavioural advertising
- Build profiles for resale
3Categories of cookies we use
We group our cookies into four categories. Each category serves a different purpose and is governed by different consent requirements under UK GDPR and PECR.
4Cookies we set
This is the current list of cookies set directly by Hon Car Service. We review and update this list quarterly.
5Third-party cookies
Some services we use set their own cookies on your device when you interact with parts of our site that depend on them. We list them here for transparency. These cookies are governed by the third party's own policies — we link to each so you can read them.
6Managing your cookies on Hon Car Service
The easiest way to manage your cookie preferences is through our cookie banner. You can change your mind any time — your choices apply immediately and we'll update which categories are active.

7Controls in your browser
You can also manage cookies through your browser settings — this is more thorough but also more disruptive (it'll affect every site, not just ours). Most browsers let you:
- See which cookies are stored and delete them individually or all at once
- Block cookies from specific sites
- Block all third-party cookies
- Clear all cookies when you close the browser
- Browse in "private" or "incognito" mode, which discards cookies when you finish
Here's how, in the major browsers:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies and site data
8Do Not Track
Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal as part of every request. There is no universally agreed standard for how websites should respond to DNT, and most major browsers no longer send it by default.
We honour DNT in this practical way: if your browser sends a DNT signal, we treat it as if you've declined Analytics and Marketing cookies. Essential and Functional cookies still operate normally because they're needed for the site to work.
9Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time — for example when we add or remove a third-party service, or when guidance from the ICO changes. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the current version.
For material changes (new tracking technologies, new third parties in new categories), we'll re-prompt you for consent via the cookie banner before the changes take effect. For minor changes (cookie name updates, lifespan tweaks), we'll update the table on this page without re-prompting.
If you'd like to see how this policy has changed over time, our legal changelog tracks every revision.
